Local pub, The Chandos in Brockley Rise, has raised over £500 for their local charity of choice Rushey Green Time Bank.
The Chandos ran a bar at the Gabriel Street party on 23 June donating profits from drinks sold. The Chandos had approached their three suppliers; Sambrook’s brewery, Purity brewery and The Real AL co. who donated free stock for the event. There was a great atmosphere on the day, and as Max, Manager at the pub describes, “the whole street loved that we were doing it for charity.”
Overall The Chandos collected a fantastic £515 to go to Rushey Green Time Bank who help people across Lewisham to share their time and skills to build a happier, healthier community. This money will support their project, FoodCycle Lewisham. This project is powered by volunteers who collect surplus food from local supermarkets to cook a veggie three-course free, community meal for people in need in Catford every Saturday.
But this isn’t the first time The Chandos has raised money for Rushey Green Time Bank. They have been supporting the charity for two years, running regular fun events to raise money, including music quizzes and even dog shows!
Explaining the motivation for getting and staying involved, Max says, “we want the pub to be at the centre of the community”. They will continue to support the charity through future events. Next up is a Superheroes Quiz Night on 25 July at 8pm.
The Chandos also offer Lewisham Local card holders 10% off food and drinks, and have signed up to Lewisham’s Community Toilet Scheme.
