From the Macmilan team:
As it is so difficult for loved ones to visit at the moment we have joined a national initiative where we give a crocheted heart to the patient and send one out to their family to help them feel connected during this difficult time.
Here is an idea of what one could look like but it does not have to be the same as this one. They are looking for the “plump” heart to fit in a palm.
If you would like to participate, please make a pair of matching hearts of any colour, seal them in a plastic bag and write the date you sent them so that the team can ensure infection control processes.
