On 28 November, #GivingTuesday was celebrated in Lewisham. A global day of giving what you can to good causes, following the huge retail sales of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Building on Giving Tuesday 2016, we encouraged local organisations to use Giving Tuesday to promote their work, gain supporters and have fun!
A variety of giving opportunities were displayed across the borough. These included an event for local businesses, volunteering at a job club and helping elderly people gain digital skills.
The Albany theatre in Deptford were raising money to offer a Theatre Trip for Every Child in Lewisham. Their supporters cycled 5 times around Lewisham (175km on an exercise bike!) to raise over £680 for the campaign. That’s 68 children who can experience the thrills of the theatre, all for free! If you would like to contribute please donate now!
In support of the Every Child campaign, Lewisham Local co-hosted an event for local businesses to become ‘More Community Minded’. The event was hosted with Business in the Community and focused on creating connections with business. Lewisham Local also provided opportunities for businesses to think about ways they can give back to their community. Over 35 people attended the event, check out the pictures below. Are you a business interested in becoming more community minded?
