Goldsmiths plans Covid safeguards for Autumn term

Teams at Goldsmiths, University of London are getting ready to welcome students for the Autumn term with a range of additional safeguards in place to protect against Covid-19.

This year all induction activities for students will take place online with term starting in October and staggered start dates for some programmes. Courses will typically involve a mix of online and in-person learning with students required to be on the College’s New Cross campus for at least some teaching and learning activities.

Following the latest Government and Public Health England advice, Goldsmiths is taking measures to ensure that its campus is as safe as it can be for students, staff and visitors. Measures include people keeping two metres apart wherever possible, wearing face coverings when moving around university buildings, installation of sneeze screens and hand sanitiser stations, and enhanced cleaning in line with the standards used in hospitals.

Goldsmiths will be providing guidance and advice to students arriving from outside of the UK to ensure that, where necessary, they can self-isolate for 14 days in line with the Government’s latest Covid-19 control measures.

Special provision is being made for students to study online if they need to self-isolate, have underlying health conditions that make them more vulnerable to Covid-19, or have caring responsibilities alongside specific measures to support BAME students, staff, and visitors.

Goldsmiths has also been working closely with Lewisham Council and NHS partners to help develop a plan to manage any outbreaks in the local area.

Louisa Green, Director of Student Experience & Academic Registrar at Goldsmiths, said:

“We are looking forward to welcoming our new and returning students onto campus for what will be a very different kind of term. Our goal is to provide the best possible learning experience for students while adapting our facilities and procedures so that everyone can help to protect themselves and the local community.

“We will keep these measures under constant review and will be ready to update them to reflect the latest public health advice from the Government and our local partners.”
