I’ve recently started work at Goldsmiths in the new role of Volunteering Administrator. I’ll be the main point of contact for both students looking to volunteer and organisations within the local community who have volunteering opportunities. There are such a fantastic range of organisations within Lewisham and the neighbouring boroughs offering invaluable support and services to the members of the community whose work is made possible by volunteers.
With 9,000 students studying a range of different subjects across the arts, humanities and social sciences from a range of different backgrounds and with differing experiences, Goldsmiths students are already making an impact in the local community and have the desire to do more. This was shown by the 550+ students who attended the Volunteering Fair on Tuesday 17th October held in the Great Hall of Goldsmiths. 34 organisations from Lewisham and beyond set up stalls and engaged with keen students, all interested to help within the local community.
It was great to see many students, some even armed with CVs, ready to discuss how they could get involved. It was also a great chance for the representatives of the organisations to meet with fellow organisations who are driving positive change within the community. With the introduction of my role, it’s an exciting time for volunteering at Goldsmiths and I’m looking forward seeing more of our students helping within the local community. If you have volunteering opportunities you’d like to promote to our students, register your organisation on CareerSPACE or email firstname.lastname@example.org
