Lewisham People’s Day 2017 saw a real scorcher of a day with an incredible turnout and a huge array of arts, craft, music and community stalls representing Lewisham. With over 25,000 visitors, People’s Day is one of south east London’s biggest free
festivals – now in its 33rd year.
The Lewisham Local stall was out in force working in partnership with Rushey Green Time Bank and Volunteer Centre Lewisham. Raising awareness of volunteering opportunities and exciting initiatives was on the menu, including our upcoming Lewisham Community Toilets. We engaged with passers by in a fun way to ‘Pin a loo’ on where they would like to see a publicly accessible toilet in the borough.
Drumming up support in other ways were young people helping out through the volunteering programme NCS The Challenge. The young people were involved in a variety of ways including a samba band performance, questionnaires and interviews, photography and sports engagement; informing members of the public about Lewisham Local and our message of giving from your time, money and skills.
A fantastic day all in all. We love People’s Day, and can’t wait for the next one!
