About this Event
The session was led by Alice Groux, Lewisham Partnerships Manager for Community Connections Lewisham.
“Motivational interviewing is designed to empower people to change by drawing out their own meaning, importance and capacity for change. It is a guiding style of communication that sits between following (good listening) and directing (giving information and advice). In this half day remote training we first explore the underlying principles of motivational interviewing, and the mindset a worker has to be in for the method to work. We tap into our personal experiences as service users to develop our empathy. We then talk through the practical aspects and the tools of motivational interviewing: open questions, affirmations, reflective listening and summaries”
