Student Volunteering Week is a national campaign encouraging students to get involved with volunteering opportunities. From 20-26 February 2017, Lewisham students were invited to participate in voluntary opportunities in New Cross ranging from a group run and community gardening to a Social Hackathon, a creative approach to tackling social issues alongside professionals.
Lewisham Local co-ordinated the week, working with Goldsmiths, University of London and Kingston Student Hub and local community groups and charities. Local businesses also backed the initiative with Curzon Goldsmiths contributing one free film to participating students and Tesco Lewisham donating food.
Student Volunteering Week 2017 resulted in more than 30 student volunteers donating almost 70 volunteering hours.
