Young People’s Volunteering Day – Autumn 2017

Young People’s Volunteering Day – Autumn 2017

Our glossy flyer

There are many great initiatives in Lewisham for young people. Some of which include Youth FirstLewisham Young Mayor’s and Young Advisers and much more.

Once a year, the summer also sees a national initiative. The NCS The Challenge, seeks to engage young people across Lewisham and connect them with local charities and good causes. We wanted to build upon these connections and provide ongoing opportunities for young people in Lewisham, continuing to contribute towards local good causes.

The overgrown flower bed…

Therefore, a trial project was launched to get young people volunteering more in our borough. To achieve this, we worked with Lewisham Young Mayor’s & Young Advisers and Volunteer Centre Lewisham.

Saturday 7th October was the first opportunity planned and 15 young people turned up at Ladywell Fields Adventure Playground to get their hands dirty. They dug deep (excuse the puns) and helped transform the overgrown flower beds and vegetable patch!

The young volunteers got stuck in and worked hard to transform the surroundings. We hope you’ll agree from the photos that the results are certainly impressive!

Youth First kept us going with a constant supply of teas and coffees. Firing up the BBQ, they also treated us to some burgers.

Watch this space for the next Youth Volunteering instalment. We also need a name… any suggestions?
