New Year Resolutions: Make this Year a Year of Local Giving!
If one of your New Year’s resolutions for 2023 is getting more involved with your local community, Lewisham Local has some suggestions to inspire you to kickstart your year of giving.
Giving to others not only has positive benefits for those at the receiving end. According to the Mental Health Foundation, it is shown to reduce stress and improve our sense of emotional wellbeing. Helping others can also help us feel more connected to our local community, improve our support networks and encourage us to be more active. Here are ten ways you can get involved and give to your local community (and you!) in Lewisham this January,…
- Give a couple of hours of your time to a local good cause. Whether you enjoy working with people, getting an office in order, driving, helping people with their digital devices, or simply meeting up with someone for a weekly a chat over a cup of coffee, there is something for everyone: Volunteer Opportunities – Lewisham Local
- Share your time and skills by joining a Time Bank to exchange time and skills rather than money. They are also looking for donations of wool for their craft work
- Sign up to take part in a community litter pick
- Pick one of the 24 local causes featured in our #24daysofgiving advent calendar to support
- Join GoodGym – Do Good by helping with a variety of practical tasks such as gardening, painting, tidying and clearing while keeping fit
- Buy a ticket to support a local good cause in Lewisham’s Community Lottery (while having the chance to win cash prizes which you can also donate to charity!)
- Show your appreciation for someone you know who gives a lot to their local community by nominating them for a Mayor of Lewisham’s Community Award.
- Apply, buy or use your Lewisham Local Card to invest in local good causes while supporting Lewisham’s independent businesses. Got one already? Tell a friend!
- Take unwanted toiletries and stationary to the Lewisham Bank of Things to support Lewisham’s young people with much needed essentials
- Support Lewisham Local to get more people giving in Lewisham by gifting a financial donation to help support our work Lewisham Local | Localgiving
