CleanupUK launch new community-based anti-litter volunteering programme in Lewisham

CleanupUK, a national community-focused anti-litter charity announced today that they are looking for volunteers to support local people in starting litter-picking groups.
Volunteers will receive training and ongoing support from CleanupUK to help them work in specific neighbourhoods experiencing litter issues. The charity has helped over 1,800 litter-picking groups to form around the country, since they started.
Litter-picking is a great way to meet more people whilst getting some exercise out in the fresh air! The project aims to support people to start their own locally led community litter- picking groups. This is not just about litter; it is about building stronger and more friendly neighbourhoods.
George Monck, Chief Executive, CleanupUK said:
“Community litter-picking is a wonderful way to meet new people while having fun and achieving a visible improvement to your area in a short period of time”
Lynn, litter-picker in Hilly Fields, Enfield, North London said:
“It has been great to join with like-minded people and to know that the work of the group is appreciated – many people say “thank you” when we’re out and about! The litter problem is a disgrace and sometimes disheartening but when we leave an area litter-free, it is satisfying to know that we are taking action and not just moaning about the problem! …The group has shown me that if people in a community work together, we can and do make a difference!”
This is a fantastic opportunity to use your people skills to make a difference in your community as well as looking after the environment.
