More than 40 local people put on their rubber gloves, grabbed a bin bag and set to clearing up the much loved Railway Children Walk. The walkway, situated towards the edge of Whitefoot and Downham wards, has recently fallen victim to fly tipping and a lack of love. Members of the local community were inspired to do something positive to help improve the local green space.
Lewisham Local worked with local residents and partners to help make the event a success and encourage local people and organisations to get involved. Volunteers and contributions came from a broad range of partners including Phoenix Community Housing, Lewisham Council, Lewisham Islamic Centre, Tahir Mosque, Metropolitan Police and Good Gym Lewisham.
Plenty of rubbish was collected and participants were treated to refreshments from Peace of Cake at Goldsmiths Community Centre; an initiative bringing together different members of the community and encouraging peace, all over a nice slice of cake.
