Need for Volunteers Met!
Thank you to everyone who came forward and offered to volunteer as a steward. One Health Lewisham have informed us that, having received over 700 applications in a matter of days, they now have more than enough volunteers to help out at the five vaccinations centres in Lewisham. We would once again like to express our gratitude to everyone who showed an interest.
However, there is still a need for volunteers to help out in the Lewisham community during what will be a very tough few months. If you wanted to volunteer as a steward at a vaccination centre and have now found this to be at capacity then please visit our list of volunteer opportunities to find another project to get involved with!
These volunteer roles cover in person opportunities such as delivering and packaging food for those in need at local food projects but also remote, socially distanced roles such as telephone befriending services and online mentoring – there is something for everyone.
Become a Covid Vaccination Centre Steward
In this role you will be part of an exciting time in history where provision of Covid-19 vaccines are hoped to help end the global pandemic. You will assist in ensuring the safe and smooth running of the vaccination service in 5 locations across Lewisham:
- St Johns Medical Centre, Loampit Lane
- The Jenner Medical Centre, Stanstead Road
- Sydenham Green Group Practice , Sydenham
- The Waldron Health Centre. New Cross
- Dowham Health and Leisure Centre, Downham
This is a vital role, which will support the vaccination programme to vulnerable residents starting with those aged over the age of 80 years. Volunteers will not be involved in administering the vaccine but will talk to and direct residents outside and inside the venues, including social distancing, marshalling, and assistance.
This is an opportunity to be part of the largest mass vaccination ever undertaken, and your contribution will be essential in supporting this.
There will be opportunities to volunteer most days of the week but dates are only known at short notice as the vaccine is made available to Lewisham GPs. Typically we are looking for volunteers who can do a four session, depending on the volunteer’s availability. We will pay reasonable expenses for our volunteers.
Volunteers can tell us what site they would prefer to work at and volunteer for the sessions that fit in with their lives. There is no specific skill or experience required.
Training will be given to volunteers covering safety, safeguarding, expenses and use of PPE which is provided (mask and gloves).
To express an interest please email or text Damian Brady 07950 056560 Damian.Brady@nhs.net Before contacting us it would be good if volunteers know the days and sites they are interested in volunteering at.
